Christmas Trees!

Finding and decorating the Christmas tree has always been a favourite holiday event for my family.  It's a big production - everyone piles into the truck and we make our way over to the Christmas tree lot to go through every single tree. We have to make sure we find the perfect one and we can't leave until everyone approves! After finding the winner, we have to get the tree back home without it falling off the top of the truck (minor details). Once we make it home, we turn on the Christmas music and we spend the evening decorating the tree! It's one of my favourite parts of Christmas and I look forward to it every year.

I've always loved decorating the Christmas tree, but now being a designer, it's one of my greatest joys of the holiday season. The Christmas tree sets the tone for the holidays, while beautiful ornaments and festive tree toppers allow you to make it your own and show your personal style. Whether you prefer real pine needles and strings of twinkle lights or a pre-lit faux tree, when the decorating is complete, it will never fail to spread the magical feeling of Christmas cheer throughout your home.

I LOVE a beautiful snow covered tree!!! This one is absolutely gorgeous! The touch of red throughout the tree creates a much loved classic look!

Sometimes we need to remember that less is more. This simple Christmas tree by Homey Oh My is absolutely stunning!

I love the gold, silver, and nature decor on this tree! All combined, they bring a  simple and rustic feel while the twinkle lights reflect beautifully off the metallic finishes!

I have to be honest - I am not usually a fan of Christmas trees that are decorated in unconventional holiday colours. I find they can appear tacky and distasteful. But this tree decorated by Christine Dovey for Canadian Tire's 2016 Christmas campaign is absolutely beautiful and elegant.

I love Christmas trees that have handcrafted elements. This red and white tree features handmade ornaments and garland that bring an awesome vintage feel to the decor!

One of my favorite things in the whole world is Christmas. I can't tell you how much I love it. So in honour of December, I will be posting decor tips, tricks, and inspiration to help you prepare for the holiday season! First up - Christmas Entryways!

Foyers and main hallways aren't often the first place we think to decorate over the holidays, but they're easy places to infuse with festive charm!

Looking for a fun, easy way to add some holiday life to your hallway built-in? Grab some red & white scarves and stockings and hang them on hooks. Colourful ornaments and presents can also add colour and holiday cheer to the space!

I absolutely love putting garland around doorways. Garland has a way of creating a beautiful picture frame look around the doorway of the room you're walking into. It gives a very magical, Christmassy feel while adding a natural element that dresses up your hallway for the holidays! 

Sometimes when you have a side table in your hallway you can be unsure of how to decorate it effectively! Remember - less is more. Place a few candles and some greenery on the table. It will give you a classic, timeless look that will be absolutely beautiful!

A lot of the time, having a Christmas tree in your hallway isn't always the most ideal situation. Your hallway can be a high traffic area that requires lots of space - but there's nothing like entering a home during the holiday season and seeing a beautiful Christmas tree greeting you as you walk in! Not everyone has the space for a big tree but you can have a smaller tree which can add just as much impact! Christmas trees come in all different shapes and sizes so see which size works best for you and have some fun decorating it!

Benjamin Moore has officially announced its 2017 Colour of the Year, and it sure is causing a stir in the design world!

After researching design trends for the past year in furniture, art, fashion, and architecture, the design team at Benjamin Moore have decided that the colour of the year is a beautiful shade of amethyst.

Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director at Benjamin Moore says “It is a little bit rock and roll. It’s the color of the galaxy but also the color of a beautiful fig. It’s passion, it’s bravery, but it’s also silence. It can be electrified or softened. That’s what I like about it—it’s versatile.”

I find the colour to be dramatic, sophisticated, and classy. It’s a fabulously rich colour for an office, library, or dining room and it would definitely give a luxurious feel to any space.
